Well well, what do we have here? A review on some wonderful nut butters that Erika sent me from Wild Friends. Erika and Keeley were in college when they made their first batch of homemade peanut butter. From there they thought of endless possibilities that they could do with peanut butter, and from there, their business was booming.
I was so excited when I received this package. I came downstairs and a big box was waiting for me in my kitchen. I opened up eagerly and pulled out these 3 flavours: Cinnamon Raisin, Honey Pretzel, and Chocolate Sunflower Almond Butter.
The nut butters contain minimal ingredients, unlike most nut butter companies who add tons of additives and GMO’s.
The Chocolate Sunflower is perfect for all chocolate lovers! It’s rich and chocolatey, but also not too sweet that it would hurt your stomach. It’s like a healthy version of Nutella, and anything chocolate is an A+ in my books.
The Honey Pretzel is really good as well. It has a light sweet taste that reminds me of these mini salty pretzel sticks I used to eat. It is delicious, and lighter if you don’t want anything too heavy.
The Cinnamon Raisin (my absolute favourite) was straight up mouth watering. I don’t know what it was about it; perhaps the way the flavours were combined to create a wonderful cinnamon peanut butter taste. Anyways, it is beyond amazing and I highly recommend this flavour to everyone, no matter what kind of nut butter you like.
Usually when I know I’m going to be doing a review, I take some time, play around, and experiment for a couple of days. But as soon as I opened this package, I had to make something, and it was conveniently breakfast time. So what did I make? Why chocolate ice-cream of course!
2 frozen bananas
1 tsp. cacao powder
2 tsp. chocolate almond butter
Blend together in a high speed food processor for 5 minutes, and you have chocolate banana ice-cream!
So since I was sort of binging on these nut butters, I decided why not use them for lunch as well? As it turns out, my dad always has peanut butter on toast for lunch. So on this day I thought I’d snaz up his lunch a bit and make him something special: a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
But not just any ordinary peanut butter banana sandwich. This one had cinnamon raisin on one half, and honey pretzel on the other half. Melted gooey peanut butter with ripe banana on whole grain bread: simply perfect. And my dad absolutely loved it.
I took a (little) break and decided to wait until the next day to use the nut butters again. For my third creation, I decided to keep it sweet and simple. Usually I add peanut butter to my daily bowl of delicious oatmeal. Since the cinnamon raisin was my favourite, I decided to add a nice blob on top of my morning oats.
3/4 cup of gluten free oats
1 tsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cinnamon raisin nut butter
The cinnamon flavoring went so well with the mixed cinnamon oats and the banana. It was delicious and I highly recommend this flavour. Although all flavours were the bomb digity, cinnamon raisin won my heart.
Erika and Keeley have an awesome business going for two girls who started this in college. They now have so many different kinds of peanut butter, almond butters, and even sunflower seed butter.
