The Stress Around Food

I’m just going to go ahead and say this straight up. People, especially teenage girls, need to stop stressing and worrying about every little thing they do. They put serious thought into every move, whether it be eating foods, putting on make-up, working out, to how other see them. That last one is called the Looking Glass Self. It’s where YOU see YOURSELF based on how OTHERS see YOU. So you’re basically looking at yourself through a clouded mirror. Why. Why does it matter what others think of you? If you’re enjoying your life, then who cares? And to be honest, people don’t care or look into your life as much as they think you do. They have their own shit going on and they are worrying about themselves and thinking about others’ opinions just as much as you are. So you see, no one is really paying attention or caring.

Secondly, it’s not the end of the world if you screw up or don’t eat perfectly. Everybody is different. Some people may like to eat lots and work out. Some people may like to eat healthy, but not workout at all. And you have no obligation what so ever to do either of those things. If you like to just chill out and do whatever, then that’s cool, do you.

I’m going to be honest with you- I’m lazy, and I kind of don’t like working out. I mean, ya I do it sometimes but I’d really rather not. (I actually used to work out often, but haven’t now in months) And you know what? THAT’S OKAY! Because it’s my life and it’s my body, and clearly if I don’t want to do something, I shouldn’t have to. I eat wholesome, plant based foods, so I definitely don’t need to worry about getting fat. I walk my dogs every day, and yes, I even go up and down my stairs, AND walk to my fridge to get food. So ya, exercise.

You should have no pressures or obligations to do anything. It’s your life – you decide what you do and don’t do. If you like to work out, THEN WORKOUT! If you like to eat carbs and carbs, then eat more carbs! If you love to indulge in junk food, be my guest. Don’t be afraid or apprehensive to do anything in your own life. I used to struggle with this voice inside my head that would tell me to say no to desserts for the fear of getting fat. I’d be so scared and self-conscious that I couldn’t even control my life. If you want to change yourself, you have to change your thoughts. Stop thinking fearful and negatively. Remember that food is your fuel and your friend, NOT the enemy. I know it’s hard, but you can get there, trust me.

Due to following a High Carb Low Fat Diet, I get to eat unlimited calories every day and eat whenever I want. Because I am eating vegan plant based foods, I never have that fear of gaining weight or getting fat. It’s an awesome feeling knowing that all the food I put into my body is good for me. And I get to eat all the time, so win win.

I also have a dessert or some kind of treat every day, (yes, every single day) because I like it. I believe we should be able to eat whatever we want, whenever we want. (well, anything other than animal by-products) but still. There is so much vegan junk food it’s unbelievable. And there’s even (shocker) healthy vegan desserts.

Healthy or not, I still eat sweets every day. After dinner especially because that’s my dessert time and my reward for getting through the day. Sometimes I catch myself thinking, “I have to stop eating all these cookies” or “okay, put the hummus away”. But then I’m like, No. You know what, I freaking love cookies and hummus so why would I deprive myself of the things I love, just in case other people think… what, differently of me? News Flash: No one cares what  you eat!! Except you. You are your own worst enemy.

I just find it so sad that how in our society, we focus around food so much that it stresses us out. “I can eat this” “I can’t eat this” “Oh, no thank you, I just ate” “Dessert? Hmmm… better not” “I can’t eat past 8pm” “CARBS ARE THE DEVIL”

Notice how much thought and stress we put into such a simple task? FOOD IS FUEL PEOPLE. If you love your body and want to treat it properly, eat nourishing foods. And that way you can have desserts and treat yourself without feeling like the world is ending. Are people judging your every bite you take? No. Are your family and friends going to love you any less? NO. So why are people determining their own self-worth based on the foods that they put into their mouths?

My point of this post is just to say; be yourself. Love yourself, and eat and live freely. Don’t be restricted by society, your mind, or anything else that tries to control you. Open your thoughts and free your mind. Have open opinions and just smile. Realize that these stupid materialistic things in life like cars and shoes don’t matter. You do. Your smile and your happiness matters. So stop letting others control what you are destined to be: happy.
