Hogtown Vegan – Toronto

HOGTOWN VEGAN! I’ve heard so many amazing things about this place. I went here the other night for my birthday dinner with my family, and the reason I chose this place is because it’s amazing for people who AREN’T vegan. If you take a look at their menu, you can see things such as: steak, phish n chips, unchicken wraps, bacon cheeseburgers, nachos, quesadillas, etc. So I knew I just had to go here because it would be awesome for my brother and dad who love those kinds of foods.

2015-07-17 008It was my brothers first time at a vegan restaurant, and he actually liked it! Not love, but like. Don’t worry, I’ll get him there one day.

I on the other hand, was head over heels in love with this place. But then again, I think I could just be in love with every vegan restaurant, simply because they are vegan hahaha.

But no seriously, this place was amazing. So much amazing vegan food, my whole family and my friend Amy and myself were in a food coma afterwards.

I was debating between the Southern Combo (3 unchicken strips, mac n cheese, and a salad) or the quesadillas. I decided on the Southern Combo because it had such variety for $14. And my brother and Amy decided on that as well, so we all got Southern Combos.

2015-07-17 009My dad got the Unchicken Ceaser Wrap, and my mom got the Bacon Cheeseburger. Yesssss. And as an appetizer, we all split the fries and the nachos, which was a good and bad decision at the same time. It was amazing and delicious, but we are so full by the time our meals came. Oops. At least we got to take what was left of our meals home for leftovers the next day.

2015-07-17 007 2015-07-17 010It’s located in Toronto on Bloor st W. It’s quite small actually, I think I pictured something much larger. It’s like a little pub like place. The service wasn’t outstanding or anything – just average. But the food was delicious – and that’s all that matters.

I definitely recommend this place to you if you’re already vegan, or if you want to take family/friends there who aren’t vegan, because hopefully it will show them that vegan food is not boring, and you can literally make anything that is non-vegan, into a vegan version.

Hi Katrina! First of all, I adore you and your blog!
I am currently recovering from an eating disorder and one of my biggest motivations is to become vegan once I am fully recovered. (My parents will not let me at the moment because they feel it’s ‘restrictive’ even though I assure them
It’s not!) but I try to eat as many vegan, organic meals as possible and include lots of fruit and veg and veggie based protein. I have a question though that I’m hoping you can answer…I have 7 chickens of my own and man they are spoiled! They are happy and given free roam of a large area 🙂 I do eat their eggs though-what is your opinion on that? If you do not agree with it, what do you suggest I do with the eggs?
Thanks so much and I wish you the best!

Hi there 🙂 Awe thank you so much <3 And oh that's awesome! I hope you heal yourself from your disorder and are able to be happy and healthy!

As for the egg question: no, personally I myself would not eat the eggs. Veganism means not exploiting other earthlings and causing as little harm as possible. Eggs are not ours to take; they belong to the chicken, so I would not take what does not belong to me 🙂
      2. Eggs are technically a Hens menstrual cycle, because she is producing unfertilized eggs, just like us women do when we get our period.
      3. Humans are 100% capable of living without having to eat another beings milk, eggs, flesh, or bee vomit (honey), so why would we? For taste and enjoyment?

So personally I would not eat the chickens eggs, just like I would not eat anything that comes from my dog or cat 🙂 I hope this helps xx
