Last year I was contacted by the lovely Lauren, founder to Esamée (at the time, Noni Noni Wellbeing.) She sent me a package of their Nonitone Powder to try and it was amazing! I used it in my smoothies everyday. So a few months ago when Lauren messaged me to try their brand new Vegan Hot Chocolate, I just couldn’t resist.
I’ve always loved hot chocolate. Especially in the winter time when it’s cold and snowy, I’d love to have a warm cup of hot chocolate and cuddle up by the fire place to a nice good movie. The only thing is that all hot chocolate mixes contain dairy powder and other additives that are a no no for me. Since I went vegan, I haven’t had any hot chocolate, which is really quite sad.
When Lauren emailed me telling me about their brand new product, I was ecstatic. It had been so long since I had hot chocolate and I missed it so much. So the day that the package arrived in the mail, I made myself a huge mug.
Let me just begin by saying how amazing this stuff is. It doesn’t taste identical to the regular hot chocolate, but that’s because regular hot chocolate has so many additives and other junk in there that enhance the flavour. It’s not natural, so I am okay with this tasting a bit different.
It’s all natural and only contains the following ingredients:
- Raw cacao powder
- Coconut milk powder
- Coconut sugar
How simple is that?
The hardest thing to find is chocolate bars and chocolate mixes that don’t contain dairy powder. Lucky for us, Esamée not only has coconut milk powder in their hot chocolate mix, but you can also just buy it on it’s own as well: http://www.esamee.com/vegan-coconut-milk-powder/
Not only does it taste amazing, but just like regular hot chocolate, it’s super easy to make. All you have to do is add water and voila! Instant hot chocolate. I used to jazz up my hot chocolate and add whipped cream and chocolate sauce to it. Can I still do this?
That’s the amazing thing about the vegan community; it’s growing and coming out with more products! I have found coconut whipped cream in the stores, so now I make my Esamée hot chocolate, and add my coconut whipped cream and homemade chocolate sauce. (1 tsp. cacao powder, 1 tsp. maple syrup, 1 tsp almond milk.)
