Ipanama Valley Fruit Brownies

This past September at the Toronto Veg Fest, I discovered something quite amazing: fruit brownies. Mind you, I had seen these around the instagram community before, but had no idea what they were. At the veg fest, I was finally able to try one for myself, and my mind was blown.

So it looks like a brownie, and it has the texture of a brownie, but it’s made 100% from fruit! Basically, to make this product, over 100 million fruit cells are compressed inside specially made pressure pots, ultimately creating the dark colour and chewy texture.

There are four flavours:

  • Banana
  • Guava
  • Fig
  • Pineapple

And the best part is: they are 100% healthy. There are no other ingredients, added sugars, GMO’S, additives, preservatives – nothing. Just pure fruit. It’s quite incredible, really.

These brownies are great for snacking on, adding to breakfast, or taking on the go to work or class. They have a chewy consistency, so I personally think it’s best to eat in small bites to appreciate the flavour and make it last longer. (I gave one to my dad and he ate it in two bites, and it doesn’t have the same effect)

I don’t know about you, but these are one of the best inventions yet, not only for vegans, but for anyone who loves healthy eating. I mean, how much better can it get? Brownies? Made from fruit…

I love the chewy texture and tangy flavour of the fig and guava, which would have to be my favourite. The banana is delicious as well and I love snacking on it in the morning with breakfast.

For more information about these fruit brownies, check out their website:

Panago Pizza Vegan Options

Disclaimer: this post is sponsored by Panago Pizza.

One of my favourite foods before I went vegan was pizza, no doubt about it. I absolutely loved to indulge in plain cheese pizza. But as a vegan, I choose not to consume dairy for copious reasons, as well as the fact that many people are lactose intolerant and cannot eat cheese. So what do we do then, if we can’t eat cheese? Well, let me introduce you to Panago Pizza.

Panago isn’t a new discovery to me. Living in the GTA, my family would often get Panago over the years, and I always knew them to sponsor many baseball events I attended. So when I discovered the places like Panago Pizza were offering vegan cheese, I was ecstatic.

Finally, a place that was catering to vegans and people that are lactose intolerant alike! Not only does Panago offer dairy-free cheese, but they also offer many other vegan options, including vegan pepperoni! They’ve actually just introduced their first FULLY VEGAN recipe pizza (which means it’s already on the menu, you don’t have to create and alter the ingredients yourself)

You can go on their website or download the app (like I have on my phone) so you can go on and customize your order whenever you wish. You just go on and select your specific vegan crust and tomato sauce, and add whatever toppings you desire. There’s also lots of salad and veggie options, as well as the salad dressing Simple Italian, which you can see down below:

Every month in the summer time, I host vegan fruitlucks in Toronto. Our last fruitluck on April 30th was sponsored by Panago, which we loved and appreciated so much. They gave us a bunch of different variations of vegan pizzas and tons of salads! You can see my full post on the event here: and if you live in Toronto or the GTA and want to join our fruitluck group, the link for that is here: Panago is so generous with it’s sponsors and loves sponsoring vegan and other events across Canada.

Panago is a Canadian company, so unfortunately if you live anywhere else in the world, this post is pretty irrelevant to you. But if you DO live in Canada, then a las, you can indulge in some vegan pizza.

Download the app now and have it delivered to your door within forty minutes. Yay for vegan pizza!!

The Rawesome Vegan Cook Book Review

Hey you! Do you like cooking? Do you like being healthy? Do you appreciate vegan food? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then I know the perfect thing for you:

The Rawesome Vegan Cook Book!

On December 8th of this month, my friend Emily from This Rawesome Vegan Life released her (third!!) cook book. Her first two were best sellers and her blog is an award winner, so you could say she’s pretty popular. I actually did an interview with Emily a few months back on my blog which you can read here.

I was also lucky enough to meet Emily in person in October when she was here visiting the city of Toronto. She’s a super sweet down to earth human who I absolutely adore.

BUT ANYWAYS, to her cook book.

2015-12-11 035

This cook book is amazing to say the least. It is packed with tons of healthy and yummy recipes. The first half are raw, the second half are lightly cooked. I skimmed through the book when it first arrived in my hands and I was just in awe at the photography. Not only is Emily a genius in the kitchen, she’s an amazing photographer and all of the photos had me drooling. I didn’t know which recipe to make first.

I ended up deciding on her Mac n Cheese because I freaking love mac n cheese and who could turn down a warm home cooked meal like that?

If you want the recipe, you’re going to have to purchase her cook book 😉 However I will tease you with some photos I snapped throughout the process:

IMG_1045 IMG_1051 IMG_1112 IMG_1074 2015-12-11 044

The final result? Amazing, of course. I’ve tried other mac n cheese recipes before, but something was so different and unique about this one and it literally tasted like “real” mac n cheese. (The old stuff I used to make from a box, ya know? But better)

I can tell Emily put so much hard work and dedication into this book. It is a master piece and I must try every single recipe. Her cook book is suitable for everyone, not just vegans or vegetarians. Whether you’re vegan, paleo, gluten free, full meataterian or whatever your diet preference, this cook book could work for you.

What I love most about the cook book is that the recipes are pretty simple and straight forward. No super long ingredient lists or complex recipes that make your head spin. So with that being said, it will be even easier for me to make my way through the book.

But enough from me – I’ll let you be the judge. Go out and get yours now:

Ginny Bakes Review

So recently I was lucky enough to try some delicious baked goods from Ginny Bakes! They are a company based out of Florida I believe, who specialized in organic, gluten free baked goods. So if you have celiac’s disease, or you’re gluten intolerant, then these goodies are perfect for you!!

2015-09-21 003Now, not all of their products are vegan, so beware of that. However, they do have one selection of vegan cookies, as well as multiple different vegan granola bars.

The cookies are actually amazing. They are a bit hard and crunchy, but super sweet and tasty. They almost remind me of a sugar cookie, or gingerbread cookie. I’m kind of addicted to them. Each time I put the box away, I find myself getting up and going back for another one hahaha. But hey, they’re pretty much healthy, so why not?

IMG_9189I also got fancy and made chocolate cookie dough nana ice cream, where I crumpled up the cookies and mixed them into my nice cream – best idea ever. It was fantastic.

2015-09-23 009The granola bars are amazing too. Lately I’ve been super rushed during the day with work and school. I try to pack myself a good lunch, but then I always find that I’m hungry a little bit later and want to snack on something. The granola bars are great because they are literally just oats, nuts and seeds, and there’s a few different flavours to choose from.

The other day I was driving home (an hour drive) and I was kind of hungry and wanted something to snack on. So I just grabbed one of the granola bars and it satisfied that hunger and sweet tooth.

IMG_9182 IMG_9184And hey, if you’re not vegan, then there are tons more options available to you. Not that I’m promoting not being vegan 😉 😉 but I’m just saying that there is dietary options for everyone!

So yeah, definitely head over there and check them out, especially if you can’t eat gluten.

If you want to see those Vegan Delight Cookies, here is the link:

And if you want to check out those granola bars, the link is right here:

(only 3 of the ginny bars are vegan: ‘Peace, Love, and Apple’, ‘Karma, Love, and Apricot’, and ‘Love&Nuts’.)

Eco Tan Body Products Review

Allow me to start off this blog post by stating that I get super pale in the winter time. So pale that it makes me sad. Summer is my favourite season for many reasons; some being that it’s sunny, warm; there’s tanning, swimming, etc. So when Winter arrives, and it’s cold, dry, and dreary… it makes me very sad.

I 100% support companies that are vegan, natural and organic. So you can imagine my happiness when I came across ECO TAN! An all natural, vegan and organic company that produces body washes, lotions, and self tanning cream. I was ecstatic!! (YES, no more pale winters)

The founder of Eco Tan, Sonya, created these products after her sister was diagnosed with melanoma.

Sonya still wanted a tan, but knew that UV rays were now out of the question. Sonya also became concerned with the ingredients that go into spray tanning, and began researching the ingredients from different brands.

After restless hours of research and formulations, she created what is now the Eco Tan products. They are made from all natural ingredients, such as Cacao for colouring, herbs, flower extract, fruit extract, and chamomile. They use certified organics in all of the products.

So now we can all get that healthy, colourful glow without the risks of cancer or any of ailments that come along with fake tanning.

They have a wide range of products to choose from, including:

  • Coconut and Mint Body Wash
  • Coconut Milk Body Wash
  • Deodorant
  • Extreme Exfoliating Glove
  • Face Tan Water
  • Foaming Body Wash
  • Invisible Tan
  • Honey Professional Solution
  • Coconut Sunscreen
  • Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub
  • Winter Skin

1. Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub + Exfoliating Glove ($34.95)

These were the first two products I tried out. And this is the correct step to use them if you have all four of these products.

Basically, you put some of the scrub onto the exfoliating glove, and rub it all over your body – DRY – before you get into the shower. Focus on problem spots that you may have, such as dry skin, cellulite or stretch marks, because it works to combat those things. You can put it all over your body, and even on your face, for smooth, long lasting results. The blend of lemongrass, coconut oil, and macadamia oil work together to both hydrate the skin, and exfoliate at the same time. You can also use this as tan prep, or to remove your old tan.

It may feel a bit rough on the skin, but that is a good thing. It means you’re scrubbing away all the dead skin that is on your body.

Then you hop in the shower, and rinse it all off.

#2. Coconut and Mint Body Wash ($21.95)

Next step is to scrub your body clean with this body wash. It smells kind of weird at first, maybe cause I wasn’t use to the strong scent – but after a while, I became used to it, and grew to love the minty smell.

I also put this onto the exfoliating glove, OR you can use a bath sponge, and scrub it well all over your body. If you used the Himalayan scrub prior to your shower, I recommend scrubbing your skin really well in the shower because the salt scrub can get hidden in your skin. Make sure you get it out.

After this, your body will be smooth and silky, feeling wonderful, fresh, and clean…

And next up is my favourite part… THE TAN.

IMG_8029#3. Invisible Eco Tan ($34.95)

First thing’s first; you need to wait at least 24 hours after exfoliating your skin. I think this is because your skin is still fresh and the tan may not work well immediately after exfoliating.

Also, aim to apply the tan at bedtime. That way you can hop right into bed and it works into your skin for 8 hours as you sleep. So then when you wake-up in the morning… SURPRISE, you’re tanned.

Another bonus is that it does not stain your sheets or pillow cases, so do not worry about that.

I’ve used the tan twice so far and I’ve noticed a slight difference. May I also note that it is currently summer here in Canada, so I am already tanned. I aim to use this product more in the colder months of winter (which I am dreading), so I can give you updates then.

So far though, it has given me a slightly darker glow. And it also smells reallllyyy good, so the day after I used it, I always smell really good.

I’m also kind of bad at using it… The bottle says to wash your hands WELL after using it, but I kind of forgot.. so my hands were all discoloured. Then the second time I did it, I forgot to rub it into my neck properly, so I had this random white gap on my neck where the rest was tanned ha ha ha…

I also had some random brown marks on my skin that I clearly didnt rub in properly. So please be warned: RUB IN YOUR TAN. AND WASH YOUR HANDS. Don’t be dumb dumb like me.

2015-08-19 035CONCLUSION

All in all, I think these products are quite amazing. From the concept, to the ingredients, right down to how they work. Healthy, safe, clean, natural, vegan, organic; how can it get any better? And if this is a better alternative to sun-tanning, or UV ray lights, then please, do this instead. I am so scared of developing melenoma because of the amount of times I’ve been severely burned by the sun in the past.

Also try to eat a diet high in anti-oxidants (berries!) because that can help heal your skin immensely.

I hope this review helped, and if you are interested in checking out their website, or purchasing any products, you can find the links below.

Fruit Me – Maqui Review

Happy Wednesday everyone. Halfway through the week – you can do this. But then again, it’s summer, so sometimes all the days just mash together.

Anyways, I have another awesome review for you today. The lovely people over at the company Fruit Me sent me over a package of their amazing Maqui powder, as well as two ‘Miracle Berries’, which combat bad tastes and prevent foods from leaving a sour taste in your mouth.

2015-04-11 21.27.28I’ve never tried Maqui before but let me just tell you: it’s amazing. Not only does it taste amazing and add a zing to your smoothies or nana ice cream bowls, but it is extremely healthy. In fact, it’s the only food in the world containing the most anti-oxidants.

So let’s get into it.

What’s the difference between Acai and Maqui?

“Both the acai and the maqui berry come from South America. The small deep blue acai berry has been known for centuries by the indigenous people of the Amazon rain forest where the wild fruit grows on tall acai palm trees. The berries are made into a fruit pulp that, when flash-frozen, retains its antioxidant and vitamin properties even when shipped around the world. The deep purple maqui berry, which grows on small evergreen trees, has been used for hundreds of years by the Mapuche Indians of Chile and Argentina for its medicinal and antiaging benefits. Maqui extract is widely used as a coloring agent for Chilean wines.

Both acai and maqui berries contain an extraordinary antioxidant compound called anthocyanin, which is thought to have many health and antiaging benefits with its ability to neutralize free radicals in the body, combat tissue damage and strengthen the immune system.

Maqui berries contain the highest antioxidant value of any known superfruit. Medical News Today reported that the ORAC value of the maqui berry was four to 30 times higher than the average acai berry. ORAC, developed by researchers at Tuff’s University, measures a food’s antioxidant ability to correct potential health imbalances. The pulp of the maqui has a 27,600 value per 100-gram serving as compared to 16,700 per 100-gram portion of the acai.”

2015-04-12 032Benefits of Maqui

  • Strengthens immune system.
  • Lowers blood pressure.
  • Helps the body detoxify.
  • Can help prevent illness as you get older.
  • Promotes higher levels of good cholesterol.
  • Promotes healthy skin.
  • Supports healthy weight loss.
  • Improves energy levels.
  • Aids in ‘anti-ageing’.
  • Great source of dietary fibre.
  • High in iron, calcium and vitamin C
  • Helps reduce inflammation.
  • Encourages stamina and clear thinking.
  • Good for healthy bones and joints.

“Maqui berries currently hold the highest amount of antioxidants out of any fruit currently discovered in the world today. Amazingly it contains the same amount of antioxidants as Acai, Goji and Pomegranate combined. Here is a comparison of the antioxidant content of Maqui with other Super Fruits.” –

Antioxidant-graph2015-04-04 039

Not only is it super healthy, but it tastes delightful! And it adds a beautiful pink/purple colour to your smoothies.

To conclude, Maqui powder is the bomb. It contains so many crucial vitamins and nutrients that are essential to our body, and it tastes incredible

Esamée Vegan Hot Chocolate- Review

Last year I was contacted by the lovely Lauren, founder to Esamée (at the time, Noni Noni Wellbeing.) She sent me a package of their Nonitone Powder to try and it was amazing! I used it in my smoothies everyday. So a few months ago when Lauren messaged me to try their brand new Vegan Hot Chocolate, I just couldn’t resist.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetI’ve always loved hot chocolate. Especially in the winter time when it’s cold and snowy, I’d love to have a warm cup of hot chocolate and cuddle up by the fire place to a nice good movie. The only thing is that all hot chocolate mixes contain dairy powder and other additives that are a no no for me. Since I went vegan, I haven’t had any hot chocolate, which is really quite sad.

When Lauren emailed me telling me about their brand new product, I was ecstatic. It had been so long since I had hot chocolate and I missed it so much. So the day that the package arrived in the mail, I made myself a huge mug.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetLet me just begin by saying how amazing this stuff is. It doesn’t taste identical to the regular hot chocolate, but that’s because regular hot chocolate has so many additives and other junk in there that enhance the flavour. It’s not natural, so I am okay with this tasting a bit different.

It’s all natural and only contains the following ingredients:

  • Raw cacao powder
  • Coconut milk powder
  • Coconut sugar

How simple is that?

The hardest thing to find is chocolate bars and chocolate mixes that don’t contain dairy powder. Lucky for us, Esamée not only has coconut milk powder in their hot chocolate mix, but you can also just buy it on it’s own as well:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetNot only does it taste amazing, but just like regular hot chocolate, it’s super easy to make. All you have to do is add water and voila! Instant hot chocolate. I used to jazz up my hot chocolate  and add whipped cream and chocolate sauce to it.  Can I still do this?

That’s the amazing thing about the vegan community; it’s growing and coming out with more products! I have found coconut whipped cream in the stores, so now I make my Esamée hot chocolate, and add my coconut whipped cream and homemade chocolate sauce. (1 tsp. cacao powder, 1 tsp. maple syrup, 1 tsp almond milk.)

Hello Hair Review

I love anything natural. Natural foods, natural cosmetics, natural body scrubs, and natural hair products. Most shampoos and conditioners have so many chemicals in them, and I often question what I am putting into my body. I preach that we should eat natural foods, but this goes for products as well. You don’t want to be using products such as makeup, deodorant, or hair products that contain so many chemicals that are being absorbed into your body. So I finally found a natural company that promotes the same ideals I do, and I know I can rely on: Hello Hair.

photo (2)The winter time is always cold and dry here in Canada, and I suffer from dry skin and dry scalp. My hands are always dry, my face is always dry, and my scalp is always dry, and sometimes dry skin itches. It’s really irritating and I hate it.

But luckily for me, this hydrating mask combats dry skin! You apply it 30 minutes before going in the shower, and massage the oil into your scalp and hair. Let it sit, and then rinse it off in the shower. It’s amazingly smooth and smells delicious like coconuts. It makes the world of difference on my hair and scalp. I love it.

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review

Good morning everyone, today I am doing another product review for an amazing company. Recently I was lucky enough to be sent a box from the company Vegan Cuts which promotes healthy, cruelty free vegan living. Each month they send out snack boxes and beauty boxes to customers who sign up for them.

I received the Beauty Box which contains a bunch of little goodies that differ each month. They choose a bunch of different products from vegan brands and put them in the box so that if you like the little sample of that product, you can purchase the real deal from that company.

imageIn my January Beauty Box I received the following products:

  • DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo and Intensive Hair Repair Masque
  • Gourmet Body Treats: Sugar and Spice Scrub
  • Black Nail Polish
  • Modern Minerals Shimmer Eye Shadow
  • Crazy Rumors HibisKiss Lip Balm

It’s only $20 per box (which they send out once a month), and if you think about it, that’s a pretty good deal considering you can buy a mascara for $10, a nail polish for $8-10, and a foundation or cover up for $15.

The first thing I used was the nail polish because I’m absolutely obsessed with nail polish, and although I don’t normally wear black, I thought I’d give it a try. It’s your standard nail polish, but I love the fact that it’s cruelty free.

IMG_2054EDITEDNext I used the lip balm because it’s currently winter here and my lips and skin are always super dry. First of all, the lip balm smells amazing and you can read all of the natural ingredients right on the label! It makes my lips super smooth and even gives it a tiny tint of colour for those of you who don’t like dull lips.

I used the shampoo and hair repair masque when I went in the shower next. They work really well and are as well made with all natural ingredients. I love this because when I read the label on most shampoos and conditioners, there are so many toxins and unnecessary ingredients, not to mention that many cosmetic products are tested on animals. My conscious feels much better using this stuff, and if it works so awesome, then why wouldn’t you?

IMG_2049EDITEDThe fourth product is the Gourmet Body Treats Sugar and Spice Scrub. This stuff is awesome cause you rub it on your skin and it aids with dryness, exfoliates, and protects your skin as well as nourishes it with all the vitamins in it. It’s made from: organic cane sugar, organic coffee, organic pumpkin oil, cucumber hydrosol, organic coconut oil, calendula extract, green tea leaf extract, vanilla, organic cinnamon, organic lemon EO, organic orange EO, Organic Lime.

See, all natural and healthy ingredients that are amazing for your body and will nourish your skin.

IMG_1760To conclude, this beauty box is amazing and I highly recommend it if you’re looking to try some new beauty products. Everything is amazing and you can’t even tell that they are made any differently from standard beauty products. Except maybe these are a tad better 😉

Small Batch Co. Review

Recently I was contacted by the lovely people over at Small Batch Co. asking if I wanted to try some of their granola. I don’t buy granola too often because a lot of companies add dairy (whyy?) and so many other sugars and additives to their granola. I haven’t quite found a company that makes their granola 100% natural; until I learned about Small Batch Co. I checked out their website to see that they make natural and fresh granola free of any wheat, refined sugars, additives or preservatives. I saw that they were located in Niagara Falls which is local for me. (most companies are in US or Aus) I was so excited to try this all natural granola and see if it was as good as they claimed.

Sure enough, as soon as the package arrived, I ripped it open and tried some of the granola. And let me just say, it was amazing. They sent me the Niagara Blend and the Maui Blend. They are both delicious, but the Maui Blend is my favourite because as soon as you open the bag, you are overwhelmed by the smell of Hawaii. I’m serious, I don’t know how they did it, but the granola literally smells like Hawaii. It has cashews, pineapple, and coconut, and it tastes incredible.

The only ingredients they use are: old-fashioned oats, a mixture of nuts, unsweetened natural dried fruits, organic extra virgin olive oil, warm spices and a not-so-secret sweetener: dates.

They offer 3 flavours:

Niagara Blend

Maui Blend

Chocolate Banana Blend

It makes a perfect topping to my smoothie bowls, and even as plain cereal with almond milk. You can still enjoy your classic breakfast cereal with this delicious granola. Just cut up some banana and strawberries and add it to a bowl with some almond milk and you’re all set to go. Its chewy and crunchy and has so many flavours. Sometimes I catch myself just eat it straight out of the bag, which I have to stop doing because I’m almost all out!

All in all, this granola is one of the best I have ever tasted and I highly recommend it. It’s even better if you live in Canada because the shipping fees will be less than that if you were to order from the US.  Also if you live in the Niagara region, they offer complimentary delivery whenever you purchase 2 bags of granola or more.
