Hi everyone, and happy May. I apologize for my absence yesterday on the first of May – these announcements were scheduled to be released yesterday, however I was experiencing technical difficulties and was working all day to fix it. Nevertheless, I am here today and able to finally post the announcements.
1. Blog Updated
First things first: My blog is officially updated. I know it only appears to be a subtle difference, but don’t even get me started on how much work went into this. A while back I heard that switching from WordPress.com to WordPress.org was a better idea because you get plugins, themes, more space, etc. So after thinking about it for a while, I finally decided to make the switch to WordPress.org. Boy was that a process. First I had to buy a yearly plan with Bluehost (good prices though). Then I had to export my blog, download wordpress.org, do all this technical stuff, important my new blog, and spend hours redirecting links and working on themes and plugins. I couldn’t have done ANY of this without my dad who helped me every step of the way. I know I got annoying always having problems and asking for help, but he put up with me. So thank you dad<3 Also, shout out to the guys over at Bluehost who we probably called 12 times in the past 3 days to ask for assistance.
SO ANYWAYS, take a look around. It doesn’t look that different because I kept the same theme, but I added a few things to my side tool bar, and also added a thumbnail gallery to my recipes which took A LOT of time.
I have been waiting for so long to finally announce this, but I never knew the right time. I’ve been working on it for the past 3 months! It’s been so hard keeping this a secret, especially when I’m taking so many pictures and wanting so badly to post them on Instagram.
Basically the cook book will be an E-book, which means it will be available online for you to purchase. I do not have a release date yet because I am still working on it, but for now I will able to keep you updated and give you little sneak peeks here and there.
The book will contain all healthy vegan dessert recipes that are gluten free and only use whole plant based foods. I’ve been working hard in the kitchen night and day experimenting with different flavours and textures to come up with the perfect desserts for you to make.
My family have been my lab rats. Every time I make something, I give it to them to see if it pasts the ‘flavour test’. Most times it does, others, it has not. But that’s why it’s called experimenting. I keep making the recipes and trying again until I perfect it. I can usually tell if it’s a good batch when my brother likes it; he’s a tough critic with a sweet tooth.
So I just thought I’d write this post to finally share this exciting news with you. It brings me such joy working in the kitchen and creating all of these fun and healthy recipes. Nothing makes me happier than creating a perfect batch of vegan brownies and being able to share them with you.
I’ve been hearing about this recently and I think it’s awesome. I don’t know why stigma and stereotypes still exist, but we need to work together to get rid of it. We are all equals on this earth and every single individual is different and unique in their own way. There is so much we don’t understand about mental health, but if people only realized it’s not that much different from physical health, and would stop putting people down for their illness, the world could be such a better place.
We need to recognize those who suffer from mental illnesses and honor them. They have gone through/go through things that no one can imagine. They stay so strong and work so hard to get better, just as someone would who has a broken arm or cancer. Except these people get labelled as different simply because it’s in their mind. Illness is illness – just sometimes it can be invisible.
4. May= Conquer Month.
We all fight our own battles and go through things that are difficult. So I thought, why not make May conquer month. Whether it be fears, goals, projects, achievements, anything; conquer it. We are so strong and we can accomplish so much when we put our minds to it. So get a piece of paper, write something down, heck write 10 things down, and by the end of May, I want you to be able to say that you have conquered what you wanted. And if you can’t conquer it by the end of May because it takes longer, then work on it. Either way, May is your time to shine and conquer what you have always wanted to. So get ready, cause the month is just getting started.
Add a photo to Instagram of your goals using the hashtag #ConquerMay. Or a add a picture of you working on them. Together we can all work towards our goals and see what others are striving towards as well. Remember, you are not alone; you have a whole community here with you. If one person can do it, we all can do it.
As much as this post is filled with happiness and positivity, it brings me great sadness to announce the passing of our beloved cat Chewie who was 20 years old.
In 1994 she was found on the streets of Toronto and brought into the Humane Society where my mother fostered her and her brother. She had a respiratory problem causing her to have difficulties breathing. The vet said she wouldn’t live long and wanted to put her down but my mother refused. She not only exceeded the average lifespan of a cat, but she exceeded the lifespan that the vets gave her as a baby.
Chewie was an indoor cat, but when she was 6 years old, she accidentally got out of the house and was lost for 3 weeks. Everybody told us to give up and that she was gone. We moved to our new home in Whitby, and a week later we got a call saying she was found.
She was such a strong fighter and every day we had with her was a blessing. People often say things like “oh, it’s just a cat/dog” but they don’t understand the bond we have with our animals. They are our babies and they mean the world to us.
We will never forget you Chewie. We hope you made it safely to the rainbow bridge.
I made a tribute to Chewie and put it on Youtube. The link is here if you want to watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm_WdYptFmM
Lastly, not only have I been working hard on my blog and in the kitchen for the cook book, but I’ve also been busy with a few other things. Mindfully Bliss has many exciting things coming soon such as multiple product reviews, vegan summer dinner ideas, vegan chia pudding overnight oats, more salads, healthy ice cream sundaes, and a few funny posts I’ve been writing. (One of them is called shit vegans say). ALSO I made my first video yesterday! I spent some time filming and many hours editing (it took a while) and I will try to post it soon. It’s called Why do People Hate Vegans? It’s funny I promise.
That pretty much sums of my week. I hope you all had a wonderful April, and I look forward to see how May will turn out. Remember: be kind for everyone is fighting their own battles.
And also work on conquering those goals! #ConquerMay
